Calvary Chapel of Temecula Valley was formed in 1989 by Pastor Gary Nelson. The church began as a small group meeting in the Nelson home finally settling in the business district of Northern Temecula. Today, you'll find Calvary Temecula (or CCTV, as we like to call it) to be a smaller intimate fellowship. Everything we do is driven by our Three Core Values: Priority of Prayer, Passionate Worship, and Preaching the Word.

Here are some quick points about CCTV:

  • We choose to follow the mandate put forth by Jesus Himself when he said, "My house shall be called a house of prayer." We take prayer seriously to be the priority in life and we give it a great place in our church and everything we do.

  • If you arrive early between 9:30 & 9:50am, you can participate in our pre-service prayer time in the sanctuary. We encourage you to join us...by preparing your heart before the service (this is key), you'll get so much more out of it.

  • We have a kid's church available Sundays and Wednesdays for nursery age-8th grade, and you can feel absolutely confident in the level of care they will receive. Our High Schoolers remain in the main sanctuary.

  • Our Sunday service typically last between 1 1/2 - 2 hours. We do allow extra time for worship songs, and always have a time of prayer at the alter after the message for counseling, confession or whatever the Lord leads you to do.

Gary Nelson [ Senior Pastor]
Raised in southern California for most of his life by a conservative family, Pastor Gary was raised in the Protestant church. However, it wasn't until he was sent to Vietnam that he met Jesus, when a good friend in the army led him in the prayer of salvation. Returning home to his wife, newly saved herself, Gary's life was forever changed as he recognized God had a calling on his life to be a pastor. He attended the Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas and Biola Christian College in California, while holding full time jobs and pastorate positions.

In 1988, God called Gary to be the senior pastor of a Calvary Chapel in  Temecula Valley, CA. Fifteen years later, he still gets a kick out of watching God work, and is passionate about seeing those who are lost coming to the Lord. His greatest desire is to teach Christians how to pray and enjoy the Christian life at its fullest. When he's not at the church, he loves fixing up and cruising in his 57' Chevy Nomad, surfing, listening to his IPOD, and playing Solitaire. Gary and his wife Marcella have four grown children and 6 grandchildren.
